Calorie Intake

Hello everyone, hope all is well. I have been using MFP for a while but I am on and off. Before I had started I was able to lose 10 pounds but I did not track it and I was only eating small amounts. Now I am doing them properly but the issue is I don’t think the caloric deficit is correct I am 5’7 and 220lbs and my calorie intake is set to 1,950 and I didn’t feel that was correct, so I changed it to 1,400 and wanted to know is that a safe and appropriate amount to lose weight?

Who knows. Are you male or female? And why don't you trust the number MFP gives you? Btw, this number is without exercise. You're supposed to log exercise and eat back the calories you're given. It's also not a good idea to severely undereat for health reasons and because the chance of giving up is a lot bigger if you do.

    Are you female? Hope so.

Try it at the 1400 PLUS Exercise calories for a month and see how it goes. I think it will be hard to adhere to that number but you will drop weight rapidly. You don't tell us anything about yourself so we can't possibly tell you any more than that.

A lot of your success is going to be 1. Adherence and 2. Accurate food intake, which usually requires learning to log food.

It's easy to lose weight when you have a lot to lose. If you're female and of normal-ish height 1400 should be okay for a while, but if it's really hard for you then you can probably adjust upwards a couple hundred. Anything in between the 1400 and 1950 should [theoretically] result in weight loss.

Recalculate your calories in a month and see how you do. Here's a good guideline:
