Anyone on SCD and trying to gain weight?

Hi all, I'm not exactly new. Five+ years ago I needed to lose weight. Now I need to gain at least 7 lbs to have a healthy buffer for my age - 75+.

If anyone else out there is on the SCD diet and frustrated with the 'official' recipes I'd like to hear from you. Dealing with the diet is hard enough without the vague recipes.

I had to look that up. I see "A specific carbohydrate diet eliminates select carbohydrates from your diet. This eases symptoms of digestive disorders like inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)." This makes me think of my mom, who has IBS, and struggles to stay above underweight. She also has to be careful with fat.

If you have no issues with fat, there you go, problem solved - eat more butter, oil, cheese, nuts, fatty meats, etc. Think keto, but more flexible, as you can have more carbs, just not specific carbs.

Assuming the Cleveland Clinic article below is a good source, it looks like legumes like dried navy beans, lentils, peas, split peas and lima beans are your only starch? If all powdered spices except curry, garlic and onion are indeed ok, you can do a lot of different things with those legumes by varying your spices. This time of year in the northern hemisphere bean stews with various veggies and fatty meats would be yummy

allrecipes.com used to have advanced search where you could input and exclude ingredients but it seems to have disappeared  I haven't used this one before, but give it a try: https://www.reciperadar.com

Well, it's not nearly as good as allrecipes used to be :disappointed: I tried playing around with navy beans, but couldn't specify dried, and could not eliminate cans. Still, it might be of some use to you, or look for a similar feature on a better site.

ps: are these the recipes you find too vague? If so, please give an example recipe and the issue with it.

Thanks for your detailed reply kshama and apologies for my late response. I'm gingerly adding back foods so many of the 'advanced' foods like legumes are still in the future. Lentils I like, the others that are allowed not so much. I'm boosting fats carefully - so many cautions and prohibitions and way too much cooking since nothing much can be trusted :( Yes, the scdrecipe.com site has some entries in the baked goods that are a bit vague for me since I don't bake much. I was probably hangry when I posted. I'll probably keep looking further afield and be careful with ingredients.
