Walking around the track...

I joined a gym to walk around the track for the year. In Heart Failure clients, we can't walk in the cold. It makes our heart work too hard. From Sudden Cardiac Death, we can die.
I walked around the track with soccer game going, kids out running me, kids playing on the track, etc. This is better than sitting home and making excuses.

I'm a bit of a cheapskate. I just walk at the mall. They open the doors about an hour and a half before the stores open. It's just me and 20 or so other old people and a couple of cleaning ladies. It's nice being a constant 69 degrees with no traffic and a nice smooth floor. Every now and then there's some screaming kids in the play area at the one end. But I'll take that over getting hit by a car crossing the street, tripping on uneven sidewalks or suffering the weather, any day.10

Our the others regulars? I used to belong to a run/walk group and there were usually about 4 of us that would come every week. I miss it because it turned into therapy both mentally/physically. It was a great release.5 -
What an encouraging thread. I love that you've searched out safe ways to exercise that work for your medical condition.2

Thank you all. Honestly, I would rather mall walk, but I don't want to waste the gas of an hour drive daily ( too much money and wear and tear on the car).
I want to eventually join a walking group. This is better than therapy. Eventually, I want to enter a 10k again. My bucket list goal is to do the Disney 1/2 Princess half-marathon and dress up while having fun. Quite frankly, it is my body that decides for me what is possible. Or, the OU Color Run would be cool. https://thecolorrun.com/
The point is most people go through medical issues or broken bones (left ankle/ right collar bone) in our lives (my life). WE all struggle. Even trainers aren't enthusiastic every day of their lives to work out. The point is to push through inertia, pain, indifference, pain, endurance, laziness, fear, etc. to be the better you. I almost seriously died this year. I had "imminent death" on my medical records. This is/was super serious. If that is mot a wake-up call, what is?
All the time I wasted could have been more productive. I did complete 13.60 miles, I want more!
Good Luck everyone. Press on!5 -
I have mall walked too, but my gym is 20 minutes closer and only costs $10/mo.(limited access, Sr. Community) but mostly the reason I like it, I can watch kids playing basketball, the rock climbing wall, the weight room, judo classes, etc. below me. It never gets boring.3

When I walked today, they had coed soccer games in the middle, basketball court, and soccer cage. Then, there are the people working out for motivation. There also is a cross fit, which hopefully I will be able to join at one point. I sweated today, gained energy, and that felt good.3

That sort of thing is one (among many) aspects that I enjoy about riding my bike or walking on the local trail system in the nicer outdoor seasons. I get to go past parks with families enjoying time together, parents fishing with their kids, young people swimming in the lake, people walking dogs, little kids playing, people playing disk golf or soccer or whatever . . . .
It's just pleasant and wholesome.3 -
Indeed! It is much better than sitting at home. Although I still go to the gym, I've added walking to my "exercise plan" and it is paying big dividends. I wear my Fitbit constantly and generally make it above the recommended 10,000 steps a day. Since doing this 4 weeks ago, I have been down in weight every week without changing my diet.
Great job! Keep it up!4 -
I miss walking 10,000 steps a day. You are so lucky; I am envious. Keep up the awesome work.1
