Stopped bupropion - gained weight lost motivation -help!-

Hey there
I took bupropion for about 7 weeks and wasn’t doing well on it so my doctor advised me to stop
After stopping I feel like it messed up with my brain tremendously, I feel much better mentally but my eating and motivation to do better are gone and I gained so much weight
Anyone had a similar experience?
Will I be back to normal ?

I know some antidepressants have withdrawal effects and should be weaned rather than just quitting.

This is a question for your doctor.

I've taken bupropion since the 90's. I often go off it in the summer, and resume when SAD kicks in in the fall. I taper off by taking it every other day for two weeks.

In 2021, I was also having anxiety and my doctor started a whole slew of other anti-depressants, none of which I liked. Also, none of them had the slightly energizing effect of bupropion. I was needing to nap in the afternoon. I'm back on bupropion and love that I have more energy again. I don't have to rely on motivation because the drug prompts me to move.

I also didn't rely on motivation to exercise when not taking it - I forced myself, then developed habits, and did it on autopilot.

I’m so sorry OP you’re having adverse effects. I’m currently on it and agree that the process of adjusting on and off it should be taken very seriously, but it’s the only thing I can take at this point. Once I’ve evened out I feel the most normal I have ever felt. I’m not sure what is best for you, I just want to offer my empathy for the process, and encouragement if BP is just hard to adjust to.
