Total burn calories with the app

Why does my fitness pal says every step I burn calories? I have it set to my Google fit and as I'm sick laid on the couch I only took 10 steps since I woke up and my fitness pal says I burned 8 calories. However my watch says 0. Heck I usually don't even burn 1 calories until I get at least 300 or 400 steps in on my watch.

MFP doesn't just transfer active calories from our devices, generically speaking.

It tries to reconcile what the tracker sees us burn, vs. what our MFP profile settings led MFP to estimate we'd burn. We burn calories just being alive (that's the biggest fraction of total calorie burn for most people), by doing daily life humdrum stuff (job, home chores and that sort of thing - which is usually the second biggest fraction of daily calories for most people), and exercise (usually only in third place in magnitude of calories).

With most trackers, the steps that transfer over to MFP are just a memo item. The calories are a comparison of total calories burned as seen by the tracker to total calories expected by MFP. The adjustment correlates the two, with MFP keeping any calorie deficit you asked for (for weight loss) still in your goal calories.

The calorie adjustment is highly unlikely to match active calories in our device.
