The fast diet and artificial sweeteners

Has anyone tried this? Does it work? I watched that British dude's documentary on PBS and it appeals to me on a number of levels. I've been thinking of combining this diet with simply working harder to add plenty of fruits and vegetables to my diet. My kids and I have been doing the "eat a rainbow" plan and it's really good for variety.
On a very slightly related note....has anyone here tried cutting out artificial sweeteners? I have discovered to my dismay that consuming artificial sweetener makes me hungrier.....and I REALLY like diet soda too. Bah.

Hi, I have been doing the 5:2 diet (although I prefer not to think of it as a "diet") for roughly 6 weeks now and have lost 10lbs so far. I tend to use all my 500 calories in one evening meal and only drink fruit tea or Coke Zero and the like throughout the day. Monday's and Thursday's are my fast days. I was surprised at just how easy it has been to adjust to this type of eating plan but can honestly say I am loving it. I never bought the book as the website itself tells you everything you need to know so if you haven't, do take a look at it.
Like you, I have been using artificial sweeteners (I use Splenda) for years now but have never heard that it make you hungrier. But anyway, who cares, if you are doing alternate fasting you can pretty much eat (within reason) what you like the other 5 days so it doesn't matter. Makes this eating plan even better. :happy:0
