Crazy to think about that I have been at this for 7 years now. Stating that this is a rollercoaster ride would be a major misconception, its much more than that. I began like the majority of others. I was extremely overweight, unhealthy, and wanted change. I didnt know where to start or what to do. I fell for all the fad diets, magic pills, and workout programs that promised all this crazy results. What ended up happening is I do good for a few months, fall off the wagon, gain weight back....rinse and repeat. Thankfully im as stubborn as they come and never gave up trying. Here are a few things that I wish I knew when I began.
1. Calories in Vs. Calories out - Your weight is a result of the balance between food (calories in) and activity (calories out). To lose weight you need to be in a caloric deficit. To gain weight you need to be in a caloric surplus. Simply, for most, that's it.
2. Don't pay attention to the newest fad diets or "magic" pills out there. You don't need to restrict any macronutrients, Carbs are not the enemy, You don't need to starve yourself for 16 hours a day, and for the love of God you don't need any detox programs.
3. Don't be afraid to fail. Failure is life's greatest teacher. Learn from your failures. Evaluate the failure, learn from it and grow. If it wasn't for failure I wouldn't be where I am at today.
4. Stop making excuses. Excuses do not get you anywhere. Instead, come up with solutions.
5. This will take time. Lots of time. We all see those crazy results that people seem to get overnight. These results are not realistic for most people.
These are just a few things I wanted to throw out there. I could easily write a book but I will leave it as is. Feel free to reach out if you have questions.
