How can I add walking my dog to exercise?

I use either walking at 2.5 mph or walking at 3.0, depending on how slow he was moving. Our actual moving pace is faster, but we stop a lot so he can sniff and pee.0

"Walking, 3.0 mph, mod. pace, walking dog"
You may wish to verify against distance and time. For example, if without the dog you are consistently 3 MPH, check your time and distance and adjust accordingly. For example, if you walk a mile but it takes 30 minutes instead of 20, just input 20.
If you don't have a stand alone pedometer, but do have a smartphone, it should be able to track distance. My fitbit and iphone differ, and I assume my fitbit is more accurate, but perfection isn't necessary - consistency is.1
