    Success: Looking at my average weight for the last 5 years that I have been on MyFitnessPal, I have stayed within my maintenance weight.

    Struggle: Nothing as far as my weight is going. I did eat more foods high in sugar but I also ate more fruits and vegetables. Don't know why my weight isn't going up but it isn't going down either so no complaining.

    Successes/struggles:

    I successfully negotiated the “festive season” with minimal impact on my weight.

    Struggles:

    I have two (small and exquisite) boxes of chocolates (Christmas presents) waiting to be eaten. I also have a box of fancy biscuits/cookies and two smaller packets of chocolate biscuits to eat. None of them have been opened yet and they all have long timescales on their “best before” dates. I have put them away at the top/back of the cupboard and will open the biscuits when I have people here to help eat them. The chocolates that I was given will be savoured one at a time when I’m happy that the Christmas weight gains are firmly behind me.

    Success of the week: Got back in the habit of longer walks or hikes in the forest. Got back into my ideal maintenance range instead of over that and barely in my absolute range.

    Struggle of the week: I thought I might get through the winter without the seasonal darkness getting me down. I was wrong. Getting outside helps for SURE, but I had a couple tough days.

    Successes/struggles of the week: Ended the year quite a bit higher than my range, but such is what happens during holiday season for me, unfortunately. On the plus side, I'm finally seeing a downward trend again. Hoping to keep this up along with being more motivated in my workouts.

    Success of the week: Some changes in my eating combined with more frequent visits to the gym and more walks have resulted in some rapid fat loss getting me back well within my maintenance range. Now I'm not only right near the middle of my absolute maintenance range, I'm SMACK in the middle of my ideal maintenance range, and it doesn't appear to just be another anomaly. We'll see though.

    Struggle of the week: We're having a string of unusually frigid weather that is accompanied by freezing rain. Everything is coated in a third inch of ice. The sidewalks are as slick as a skating rink. It started falling as a mix of sleet and freezing rain, so the surface had a bit of texture, and I had a nice walk. I'm scared to even go for a walk today. Power went out last night, and I was shocked how quickly the temperature inside the house dropped. I keep the thermostat pretty low. I was worried about the pipes freezing. I was just putting on the fuzzy warm undergarment I wear under my drysuit over some thermal layers and about to get in my 20 degree sleeping bag with some had warmer packets when it came back on. Whew. The natural gas company says they are concerned about running low. Oh my.

    I weighed in at 49.1 kg for several days but this morning popped up by 0.3 kg. However, the trend is definitely downwards.

    Struggles: It has turned very cold here – thankfully no ice or snow yet – so not tempting to get outside, I’ve had some very cold bike rides!

    Success: I don't feel very successful because my weight is up but I did walk and drink the amount of water that I set as a goal most days.

    Struggle: My weight was very stable for a while even though I was definitely drafting away from my eating goals. Then it started to fluctuate quite a bit from 113.0 to 116.8 back and forth. Now I think it is settling at over 116. Time to focus! I don't want to wait until I am 10 lbs over goal.

    Success of the week: Arrived back at the mid-point of my ideal maintenance range. Had some nice walks. Completed my homework for an upcoming first aid, CPR, AED, and Emergency Oxygen class. Made good food choices. Ate very well. Survived the worst winter storm in our region in over three decades.


    Struggle of the week: Ice storm kept me away from the gym. Observed a lot of garbage flowing into the river from the flooding when the ice and snow melted. Note that the freeze may have killed my artichokes that have otherwise survived close to 20 years.

    Weight is still trending down although it popped up this morning. However, I’m right in the middle of my preferred weight range.

    Success of the week: Continued working on strength training. I changed my routine up a bit, and I think I'll stick with the new one. My strength is improving, but it's still not back to where it was when I took my annual strength training pause for summer when I'm active outdoors. Maybe this summer I'll stick with it. Completed my first aid, CPR, AED, and Emergency Oxygen class. Made good food choices. Ate very well. Slowed down that too-fast loss rate from earlier in the month and am settling back in to a good part of my maintenance range. Got the last two fig trees pruned.


    Struggle of the week: Too many weeks without being in a canoe, kayak, or raft.

    Success/Struggle: My weight is down from last week, but it is just a coincidence. It has been going up and down all week. This is new for me. For a long time, I was very stable but the last 3 weeks a little crazy. I got a good report on my collarbone and can go back to my regular exercises though I have come to enjoy walking. My plan now is to walk 5 days, dumb bell video one day, and rest on Sunday. I also started a 20-minute evening yoga session using utube. That's more to help my sleep.

    Successes/struggles of the week: Still slowly trending back downwards, and I finally hit a weight back in the mid-114's on one day. I will be starting back up with an intermittent second/side job on one weekend day again - although it won't be as much involved as the last time I took it on, I'll be on my feet an extra 3 hours once a week. Last time, I had more of a time commitment and was on my feet probably an extra 8-10+ hours a week over 2-3 days, which meant that I was consistently trending downwards in weight. I don't expect to see that much of a difference this time being only 3 hours a week, but might see a slight difference.
