I noticed that you can't save foods that you have logged under tour saved foods.. it appears that you need to manually enter a food to my foods. I'd like to save some things that I don't always eat, but on an occasion, but want access to them.

You can create a food without immediately logging it and it should show up in your foods.0

Yes, the app only "remembers" foods you've eaten semi-recently or frequently, when it goes to show you things first on food search. You can add them manually, eat them more frequently, or log them on some past/future day to hang onto them a little longer.
Afterthought: You could put some of the foods you want to keep into "meals" with things you frequently eat with them. Adding a meal is less laborious than adding a food (you just save a meal you've logged in your diary, minimal clicks). MFP will keep your meals forever. It's even possible to add a food as a meal, but you'd probably end up with an unmanageably big number of meals if you did that.0 -
I can’t believe you haven’t just let us tap to favorite a food yet. I don’t want to have to create meals to save one food. Come on already. It’s 2025.

One trick is to report a food for incorrect nutritional info, check the box 'save to My Foods', make a very small change (a small change in the name should be enough) and the food will be saved to My Foods.
