Calories changed overnight

My fitbit syncs to the app throughout the day, and I always make sure the watch and app match before I go to bed. I've noticed that the calories burned changes overnight.
For example: yesterday I manually shoveled heavy, wet, deep snow for an hour in the morning, which is a very intense workout. Then I hiked for an hour and a half in the afternoon. My total calories burned were 1,000 on both my watch and app at bedtime. This morning I woke up and the calories burned for yesterday changed from 1,000 to 758. This is troublesome because I plan my net calories based on this. So I went from 300+ deficit to a much smaller deficit.
This is just one example but it happens frequently enough to be bothersome.
