I have been struggling to get on track after having my thyroid removed several years ago. Does anyone have any help in this area?

There's a very good thread in the Most Helpful Posts area of the Health and Weight Loss topic here in the Community:

    https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10767046/hypothyroidism-and-weight-management

It was written by a scientist in the field, himself hypothyroid, who lost weight by calorie counting. (IIRC his thyroid gland was also surgically removed). It's solid scientific information, a needed counterweight to much of the nonsense it's easy to find on the web.

I've also been hypothyroid for over 20 years, now properly medicated (levothyroxine at 175mcg now, for me). I do have a thyroid gland, but it's dysfunctional. When I lost weight (obese to healthy weight), I did need to get a month or so of consistent logging data in order to experientially figure out my situation-specific calorie needs.

After that, I was able to lose weight at a predictable rate based on food/activity logging, and able to maintain loss for nearly 8 years since. YMMV, but I found the mechanics quite straightforward, though of course it wasn’t psychologically easy every single second.

Nearly everyone has obstacles that can make weight loss hard: Hypothyroidism, aging, menopause, mobility limitations, unsupportive social context, etc. Generally, IME most of these can be overcome, if my focus is more on "how to overcome", less on "it's so hard". YMMV, though.

    Best wishes for success!
