I really wish MFP would sync like the Fitbit watch. I love my apple watch but I might have to go back to a Fitbit.

Have you gone onto your phone and set up privacy: sharing for your watch? Mine syncs fabulously well with MFP.
If I remember correctly you have to set up privacy within the health app, and also within MFP.
You also have to start and stop workouts on your Apple Watch or you’ll get no credit.
Your recorded exercises should look like this:
