"you can't just tell someone to eat fewer calories to lose weight.... but oh by the way make sure you shorten your eating window so you eat fewer calories to lose weight." However, he is right that exercise does almost nil for weight loss. Which is why they always say you can't out-exercise a bad diet.1

Oh, good grief, not Fung again. Ugh. Fasting is great for some people, low carb is great for some people, neither is magically the only universal route to weight loss.
But, yeah, what Sollyn said: It's hard to lose weight just by changing the exercise side of the equation. I was very active, training pretty hard 6 days most weeks, even competing as an athlete (not always unsuccessfully), and stayed at constant weight (overweight/obese) for a dozen years doing that. I got stronger, and a little smaller (a pound of muscle is more compact than a pound of fat), but I stayed at roughly the same weight. Then I changed my eating - not all that radically TBH - and lost weight.
Even a pretty heavy exercise session is only a few hundred calories. I can eat those calories in 5 minutes, and heavier exercise has the potential to spike appetite.
I'm not going to watch an hour and 24 minutes of Fung (whose theories aren't well-respected by his peers, though he has some good results as a clinician) to hear about weight loss methods I didn't need in order to lose weight (obese to healthy in just less than a year) or stay at a healthy weight (almost 8 years since) . . . methods that would be unpleasant, even punitive for me personally, and that were 100% not necessary for accomplishing my weight loss, fitness, or health goals.
YMMV.5
