Measurement of food

Hi
I’m Miriam and new to this app. I started on January 12 2024 and have entered the meals and weight most everyday. It’s been frustrating because there is’t always a way for me to enter the exact amount of food I’m eating. This doesn’t help me when I get a message that says I am not on my way to meeting weight loss goal. So my question is, is it better to over estimate or under estimate the amount of an item?

What do you mean that you can't enter the precise amount? It's better to be accurate where possible - I weigh everything and then look for good database entries with 1gr or 100gr units.

Why can't you be accurate? If you mean eating out, sure that's hard, you just have to estimate the best you can, but eating out a lot probably isn't a good idea if you want to lose weight anyway.

As for the message, don't close your diary. Problem solved. You don't need to. I never have.

    Arithmetic mostly works.

I agree with Lietchi about using a food scale and finding entries in grams, when possible.

Another option is when the serving size is dumb (cups, counts of things like crackers, etc.), and I have the package in my hand. Usually, the packaging in the US will have a serving size like "14 pieces (28 grams)". Maybe it's only in the MFP database as "14 pieces". So what? If I ate 32 grams of it, that's 32 divided by 28 = 1.14 servings. I log that as 1.14 servings of 14 pieces, which looks weird in my diary, but the calories and macros are right.
