Calorie counter goes to zero when I manually put in an exercise

The counter might show say 10,000 steps and 150 calories burned, which seems quite low but that is a separate topic, but when I manually put in say 500 calories for treadmill work then the calories I burned that the app tracked me on resets to zero about 30 seconds later. So the app does not have ability to add both the steps I took and a manually imputed exercise. So what has to happen is that when I burn 500 calories on the treadmill I have to add the calories that the app had said I had burned up to that point. So I have to put in that I burned 650 calories manually. Oddly the steps do not reset to zero. So it will still show that I took, in this case, 10,000 steps but the calories I burned will show as zero once I manually input my treadmill work.

This is completely normal. The simplest way I can describe how this (fairly arcane) feature works, is that when you log an exercise manually, it awards you a calorie adjustment no matter what. The trick here is that in addition, it makes it more difficult to gain calorie adjustments for your standard activity (essentially raising the ceiling you have to hit to achieve a calorie adjustment there).
