barcode scanning on PC

Hi,
Just an idea. I have a barcode scanner connected to my laptop/desktop. This allows me to scan codes in applications. Also, I can use my webcam to scan the barcodes in some applications for processing?
Maybe not a bad idea to add it, so it also can be used from the PC/Laptop?
Also searching for items based on the Barcode number (manual entry) would be nice as this is a unique ID.
