According to whom? What if that person has shoulder issues? Or hernia issues?

Blanket statements like this aren't that useful to people that have those issues.

One should do some form of physical activity to ensure that muscle atrophy doesn't happen.

    Nah. Not gonna.

Push ups are optional, lots of other ways to work those muscle groups.

Sit-ups can be hard on the low back, and there are much better ways to improve core strength.

Also, 10 of anything is completely arbitrary. If a person can do 10 easily, and they keep just doing 10, they won't make any fitness progress. To make progress, there needs to be a manageable challenge. 10 of (whatever) may be challenging at first, but won't stay challenging if the person keeps doing it.

But welcome to MFP, and do keep posting. We actually do like to see other make progress and reach their goals, but there will be lots of different opinions about what's good to do. :flowerforyou:
