Hello

Hi, my name is Terri and I just turned 58 last week. I have about 15 lbs to lose and I have chronic joint pain. I’d like to gain more flexibility, strength and I’m hoping to create good habits, lose a little weight, feel healthier, feel good in my own skin and all over longevity. I’ve had a hard time sticking to a program in the past and I’m hoping this time will be different. I’m looking for new friends and some accountability and any advice would be helpful. Any programs in My fitness Pal that you would recommend?

    Hi, Terri, and welcome!

I'm an MFP old gal by this point, I guess. (Age 68, lost from class 1 obese to a healthy weight with MFP at age 59-60, hanging around ever since to stay at a healthy weight. So far, so good. :) )

For me, weight loss made a major improvement in frequency and severity of joint pain from osteoarthritis and at least one torn meniscus (possibly both but only one was MRI-ed). My orthopedist said I'd need knee surgery eventually, but so far I'm still deferring it nearly a decade later.

I have to admit, I'm a pretty crummy MFP friend (though I do accept friend requests): More of a Community form gal, I guess.

My suggestion to new folks is always to think of ways to make weight loss easier, and improved fitness more fun, rather than trying to make loss fast or thinking exercise has to be punitive to be effective (myth!).

In my mind, the real goal is finding/practicing new, permanent, positive habits that can continue forever almost on autopilot when other parts of life get challenging . . . because eventually, they will.

Staying active here in the Community, reading (especially) and posting (probably too much ;) ) were a help.

    Wishing you success!
