Hey all, Charlene here. I'm 58yo, 5'8", married 40 years, 6 kids, 9 grandkids, and I'm a caregiver for the elderly so they can stay in their homes.

    Goal weight: 150
    April 30: 182.3
    May 29: 183.6๐Ÿคฆ well phooey
    May 30: 182.3 ๐Ÿ‘ yep water!

For June, I was thinking of trying an additional amount of accountability; posting a glass of water icon ๐Ÿฅ› when I meet my water goal, and the pen icon โœ๏ธ if I log everything I eat. I already do these habits, but they aren't as consistent as I want, and they need a little tweaking. I don't know if posting those will motivate me toward better consistently, but it's worth a try.

An amazing things happened yesterday and the story is too long for here; but I now have a way to destash all my old business supplies, and they're going to a good home rather than Goodwill. I'm grateful to be a part of this person's life story! โค๏ธ

@ilive2walk HUZZAH! Consultations! ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰ And don't feel bad about the diet food; it's short term and you know it isn't a solution, simply a tool.๐Ÿ‘

@cattherien I like adding my little pictures to my posts for accountability. When I know that I have to record it, I am much apt to do it, especially when sharing with the group. I started out small when I first started - and now you can see it is getting a little out of hand (LOL).

May 30: 149.8 ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ—๐Ÿซ€๐Ÿ’ช ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿง‚๐Ÿ“– ๐ŸŽฎ ME! Woo Hoo! I made it. Now to keep it there. I have been very frustrated with my weight loss - it has taken me 5 months to lose 10 pounds - I know slow and steady - but am getting antzy to get to my goal weight. I had a plan to ge there by my birthday in August - but am now realizing I will fall short. I am trying to keep positive - after all I just made the 40s. But with my lack of mobility has really slowed the weight loss. With that it mind I decided to give myself a kick - I ordered one week of Nutrisystem food (I know many will say that isn't a good thing), just as a jump. Back in the early 1990's my hubby and I went on this diet and we both got to our goal weight. I have tried a couple times since and lost weight but it is too hard to be on long term, so always quit. My food arrived yesterday and I start today. I will still log everything into MFP - would love to see what the macros and caloried come to be. I am going to look at it as an experiment!

@iLive2Walk Congratulations Darlene for meeting your May goal. A New Decade for you!!!! You have certainly earned it and worked so hard to get here, even with all your recent challenges! Keep us posted on how the Nutrisystem is working out and how those macros play out. It's a worthy and interesting experiment. Again, Bravo, my friend!

05/29-184.8-(Trend Weight 186.3)- Another high demand day with the Renovation so I'm posting late but I did remember to weigh this morning before I took off running with the ball. Whoosh! I know it was mainly water or glycogen because I peed at least 10 times overnight. Tired today for sure. I was happy to see this on the scale though, no matter what it is because it puts me (barely) on the good side of the 180โ€™s. The 170โ€™s still belong to me, I just laid them down a minute but itโ€™s definitely time to pick them back up. Yes, I am feeling pretty confident. I hope my optimism will last.

05/30-183.0-(Trend Weight 185.9)- Another nice drop today which I feel is some true progress of fat loss, not just water loss like yesterday. Now we are getting somewhere! Iโ€™m still feeling confident strong and in control of my emotions and that goes a long wayโ€ฆ..

@Numer1ca yeah itโ€™s sort of self sabotage almost. I get annoyed when I gain but if I just didnโ€™t over indulge it wouldnโ€™t happen! I definitely resent the fact I gain so easy. It feels like I have to work so much harder than most to achieve minimum results.

Finishing the month with a slight gain which is disappointing but my eating habits havenโ€™t been great this month- illness and fatigue often result in poor food choices.

Looking forward to seeing you all in June for a fresh start

Last night I took advil before bed and slept really well. Sometimes my knee wakes me up. I stretched at work a bunch of times today and it went well except when I sat for too long, then I got stiff. I walked tonight and it was great. I just need to keep moving. Iโ€™m going to bed early tonight because I had to work too late last night to get enough sleep. Iโ€™m bushed!

Charlene - those icon ideas sound good. They might help you recognize trends and links between doing those things and weight loss.

@lifechanges2day - I think sore muscles retain water.

    Goodnight all!

    *** Goals***

I went back to tracking today. Non-weight goals are to make my porridge every day and have standardized meals, with a different salad or soup added in. Exercise goals are to stretch 2x a day and walk 5 days a week, minimum a mile. Get more sleep. :)

    05/26 216.8
    05/27 215.2
05/28 215.0 - getting closer to my low weight for this round of 212.5

Each Month I write a reflection on how the month went. Here's My April Reflection if anyone wants to read:
    April 2024 Reflection

April was basically a frustrating weight loss month; lost 1.2 pounds. Didnโ€™t reach my stretch or regular weight loss goal. At least it wasnโ€™t a gain. Started off the month with indulging on Easter, then took an overnight trip to see the Eclipse and was also off plan. Then mid-month realized I had a problem with my bathroom scale โ€“ apparently, I have been underestimating my weight for a while โ€“ new scale new weight and it wasnโ€™t pretty. Worked hard the last couple weeks, and at least I got down to below my starting weight โ€“ which who knows if that was correct. For May โ€“ my goal is to get into the 140s come hell or high water.

I have been successful with the exercise, averaging well over my 17K goal, and tracked a little over 250 miles again in April; year to date a little over 1,000; almost have way there. I am also on track for intentional miles with a little over 750 miles to date.

I have been keeping on plan with my cardio and strength routines. I alternate one day of cardio and then one day of strength. Although I do not like them much, I add one stretch type routine weekly. I have been having some trouble with some pain in my knees โ€“ so found a stretching knee exercise that I began adding daily at the end of the month. I have an appointment with the Doctor May 1 to see what she says. Hopefully, I can continue to walk and wonโ€™t have to take a break.

I started re-reading the first book of the Harry Potter series, along with my Hogwarts Challenge. I finished โ€œThe Masked Cityโ€ and am on the third book of the Invisible Library Series โ€“ โ€œThe Burning Pageโ€.
The next round of The Biggest Loser starts May 1. We have a full team, and I spent a lot of time in-between rounds getting ready. Looking forward to the start. The Hogwarts Challenge started; always a fun one. I rejoined Fat2Fit - I can do it.
    • My May Goals:
    • Get into the 140 range!
    • Log 150 intentional miles; and 250 in overall miles
    • Alternate days of Cardio and Strength Training
    • Stretch 3 days per week
    • Average 17K steps per day
    • Read almost every day

Here is my before and after picture for April. Not much different than last month but found a new before picture and took an after at the same spot.

May 1: 151.2 ๐Ÿ‘ฃ ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ—๐Ÿซ€ ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿง‚๐Ÿ“–๐ŸŽฎME! A good day for me yesterday; got it all done and had some Me time. I love a new month - a fresh start; and so glad to be back.
May 2: 150.6 ๐Ÿ‘ฃ ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ—๐Ÿ’ช ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿง‚ ๐ŸŽฎ ME! A nice swish - hope it stays off. Still working towards that old scale number (had to replace the old scale mid-April and the new scale was ugly and not nice). As much as I hate to say it, the new scale was right. Went to the doctor yesterday and the numbers matched to the decimal. Nice day yesterday - moved bingo night with the family to Wednesday this week. Noone won, but it is always fun.
May 3: 152.2 ๐Ÿ‘ฃ ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿฅ— ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿซ€๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿ“– ๐ŸŽฎ I should keep my mouth quiet when I have big downside - it always bites me in the butt. Busy day yesterday. Got our morning walk done, then worked in the garden most of the day. Spread the rest of the soil and turned it in. Got the carrots, potatoes, and parsnips planted. Cleaned up the screened porch which was filled with garden stuff. Exhausted, so of course binged a little - but with all the exercise today came just under my calorie limit - with binging of course went over the sodium limit.
May 4: 151.6 ๐Ÿ‘ฃ ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ—๐Ÿ’ช ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿง‚ ๐ŸŽฎ Another busy day in the garden, also busy with a relay race in another challenge that I am in - kept me busy all day.
May 5: 151.6 ๐Ÿ‘ฃ ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ—๐Ÿ’ช ๐Ÿซ€๐Ÿ’ฆ๐ŸŽฎ What I expected (or a gain). Relay race for the Hogwarts challenge and the garden (finished) kept me so busy yesterday when dinnertime came I said I'm too exhausted to cook - we got subway, which has so much sodium, then I had pretzels, and cookies - ate all my exercise calories. Had two calories left for the day! I did take a beautiful walk in the morning yesterday along the Connecticut River and got this shot with the sun reflecting in the water - and they put the docks in, guess that means it's time to get the boat ready!
    dnwifrcwamy1.jpg
May 6: 150.2 ๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿ’ช ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿ’ฆ ๐Ÿง‚๐Ÿ“– ๐ŸŽฎ ME! First smile in a while! I don't give them until I am under my last recorded low weight. Finally got under the old scale weight. Rested a little yesterday, didn't reach my step goal - but way over my 17K average goal. Tonight is bingo night with Mom- going to resist the junk!

May 7: 151 ๐Ÿ‘ฃ ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ—๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿซ€๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿง‚๐Ÿ“– ๐ŸŽฎ ME! Nice night with mom, noone won. I'm up on the scale - but was under my calorie limit and sodium limit - so thinking just normal flucuations.
May 8: 150.6 ๐Ÿ‘ฃ ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ—๐Ÿ’ช ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿซ€๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿง‚๐Ÿ“– ๐ŸŽฎ ME! Nice day yesterday - super warm. Hubby had a PT appointment so got some me time while he was gone. Monty and I snuggled on the couch and watched MY tv shows. I usually watch them on the treadmill. It was nice. The scale is kind of being stubborn - showed me a little dance on Monday - but it was just a tease. We got the boat uncovered. We were going to wash it today- but got a call from Allyson this morning - she's having trouble with her AC unit - so going over for a Daddy-Do to see what we can do to fix it (or replace).
May 9: 150.6 ๐Ÿ‘ฃ ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ—๐Ÿซ€๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿง‚๐Ÿ“– ๐ŸŽฎ Ordered a new AC Unit - old one bit the dust. Busy day with the daddy-dos so had a hard tme fitting in the excercise - I felt very good about myself because I accomplished everything in my plan.
May 10: 149.8 ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘ฃ ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ—๐Ÿ’ช ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿง‚๐Ÿ“– ๐ŸŽฎ ME! It's temporary, but I'll take it. Today taking Mom out for Mother's Day - so expect a rise tomorrow. Going to our favorite seafood restaurant. But I have seen the 40s and they look nice!
May 11: 150.0 ๐Ÿ‘ฃ ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ—๐Ÿซ€๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿ“– ๐ŸŽฎ Nice day with Mom yesterday to celebrate Mother's day. Today going to visit Greg's cousin (actually his Mom's cousin). Greg's Mom passed quite a few years ago, and his cousin is his closest Mom figure.

May 12: 149.8 ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ—๐Ÿ’ช ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿง‚๐Ÿ“– Missed my step goal, left the house at 6AM and didn't get back until 4PM - did get my workout done. I don't know how all you that work do it. I was exhausted and was just sitting chatting for 6 hours. Although I missed my step goal I did hit the 1,100 mile marker for my 2,024 in 2024 goal.
May 13: 149.8 ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ— ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿง‚๐Ÿ“–๐ŸŽฎME! I have been having some pain in my knees for a couple weeks now. When I had my doctor's appointment last week - my doctor said to keep walking, and referred me to an orthopedic doctor (appointment tomorrow). I have been pushing through to get my step and cardio goals done. The last couple of days, have been hurting a lot so slowed down a little. Just did a stretch workout and a couple smaller walks. I am anxious about what the doctor will say tomorrow.
May 14: DNW: ๐Ÿ‘ฃ ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ— ๐Ÿ’ช ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿง‚๐Ÿ“–๐ŸŽฎME! Well, yesterday after my walk - my knee froze up and now I can put any weight on it. Perfect timing - as I have my othopedic appointment today. Did not weigh because I can't step up on the scale. Using crutches - hope they can do something - but it looks like I won't be getting in those walks for the near future. I won't let it de-rail me. I'll have to do some upper body workouts unti I get it figured out.
May 15: 150.2 ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ’ช ๐Ÿซ€๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿง‚๐Ÿ“– ๐ŸŽฎ ME! Went to the doctor, arthritis in both knees, but concerned it could me a meniscus tear on left side (which doesn't show up on an xray). Have to wait for insurance to approve, then going for an MRI. In the meantime, stay off for a week or two, and ibuprofen to reduce swelling. Upper exercises, and eating less for the time being, and have to figure out my diet without having the exercise calories to rely on. Was a tad over yesterday. I did find some seated cardio and strength routines that I tried, but . . . .
May 16 150.4 ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ—๐Ÿ’ช ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿซ€๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿง‚๐Ÿ“– ๐ŸŽฎ ME! Got it all done, except the steps (won't hit that for a while). I'm thinking the garmin overestimates the seated workouts calories. Feeling a little better, I can walk without the crutches. One step at a time. And I had TOO much ME time!
May 17 151.4 ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ—๐Ÿ’ช ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿซ€๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿง‚๐Ÿ“– ๐ŸŽฎ ME! Very frustrating. I found a bunch of seated exercise routines and reached my 100 minutes of intentional goal - but it really apparent that the Garmin must over estimate how much I burned. I think today I won't record any exercise on my Garmin and just have a really light eating day. I have an appointment next Thursday (Yes a long way out) for an MRI. I was going to cancel because it seems to be getting better, and then I said "No, let's just do it to rule out anything major."
May 18: 150.6 ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ—๐Ÿ’ช ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿซ€๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿง‚๐Ÿ“– ๐ŸŽฎ ME! I took a short slow walk yesterday and did ok. Then the a lot of seated exercise to get my 100 minutes in. Didn't use any exercise calories towards my calorie limit and came 33 calories under my limit. I wasn't hungry - I don't eat because I'm hungry - never have. I eat because I like food. Today am celebrating Mother's Day and Allyson's 30th birthday - going out to lunch. Will have a very small breakfast and light dinner to compensate.I really would like to see the 140s again soon.
May 19: 152.6 ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿ’ช ๐Ÿซ€๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿ“– ๐ŸŽฎ ME! It's what I expected. Out to lunch, and then that started me on the snacking instead of a light dinner. Way over the calorie limit and sodium - back to it today. Hoping the body quickly reverses my sabotage.

    May 20: 152.4 ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ—๐Ÿ’ช ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿซ€๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿง‚๐Ÿ“– ๐ŸŽฎ ME!
May 21: 150.8๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ— ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿง‚๐Ÿ“–๐ŸŽฎME! Finally the swish I was looking for. Almost met my step goal yesterday - getting back to it.
May 22: 150.6 ๐Ÿ‘ฃ ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ—๐Ÿ’ช ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿง‚๐Ÿ“– ๐ŸŽฎ ME! I made my step goal Woo Hoo! A little sore, but I did it. MRI of course is tomorrow and I'm feeling better - still going to do it. It's a waste of ๐Ÿ’ต, they will tell me I'm nuts - but at least I will know.
May 22: 151 ๐Ÿ‘ฃ ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ— ๐Ÿซ€๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿง‚๐Ÿ“– ๐ŸŽฎ ME! Well that was disappointing. Probably due to the higher sodium dinner last night, but I was under my sodium goal. Finished planting the garden - now just to wait to see what grows and control the pests!
May 23: 150.4 ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ—๐Ÿ’ช ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿง‚๐Ÿ“– ๐ŸŽฎ ME! Had my MRI, good news is that we had met our deductible for the year so just a small co-pay. Really glad I said yes - now the waiting game for the doctor to get the results and then make the follow-up to see what it says. In the meantime, the knee feels better and I am getting in my walks. Allyson had an issue with her car, after being out with her friends, she got in her car to go home and the headlights didn't work - so we drove to her house after she got out of work - luckily it was just the bulbs. Dad replaced and the we drove home - she lives about 45 mintues away so my afternoon walk was cut a little short. Found a new strength workout channel on youtube that I tried. I liked.

May 24: 150.6 ๐Ÿ‘ฃ ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ— ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿง‚๐Ÿ“– ๐ŸŽฎ ME! Beautiful day on the water yesterday. Kind of a rest day for me. Got my steps in, but no other workouts - a nice walk at the Meadows yesterday, then we finished prepping the boat, and got our first ride of the season. Boating season has officially begun. The water is still a little chilly (73 degrees).

May 25: 150.2 ๐Ÿ‘ฃ ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ— ๐Ÿซ€๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿง‚๐Ÿ“– ๐ŸŽฎ ME! Another beautiful day - church was having a plant sale, so we bought three flats of annuals. Planted most of them, planted marigolds and snapdragons around the vegetables to help keep the bugs away, and in the front of the house for color. Still have another 1/2 flat to go. Got my walks in and a short cardio workout, then relaxed in the afternoon. It was a nice day.

May 27: 150.2 ๐Ÿ‘ฃ ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ—๐Ÿ’ช ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿง‚๐Ÿ“– ๐ŸŽฎ ME! Just noticed that I have been off one day for my dates for a while - don't know where the error started. LOL !Finished planting the flowers. Today is a rest day, going to meet my sisters at Foxwood Casino for an afternoon of gambling ๐ŸŽฐ. Wish me luck! ๐ŸŽฒ ๐Ÿคž

May 28: 150.6 ๐Ÿ“ ME! What I expected, had a nice time yesterday - didn't win. Knee is bothering me again, so chair workouts today.

May 29: 150.6 ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ—๐Ÿซ€๐Ÿ’ช ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿง‚๐Ÿ“– ๐ŸŽฎ ME! Got it all done, but I hate working out in a chair.

May 31: 149.6 ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ—๐Ÿซ€๐Ÿ’ช ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿง‚๐Ÿ“– ๐ŸŽฎ ME! Down 2 pounds this month! And it is May Reflection time! Thank you everyone in this group for your encouragment and support!

    May Reflection

Iโ€™ll start with the good this month. I lost weight this month! Not the four pounds I wanted to lose but a loss. Two pounds towards my goal and met my goal to get into the 140s! I am down 78.4 pounds since starting my weight loss journey.

I reached the 1,200 mile marker on my quest to walk 2,024 miles in 2024. I have logged 1,215 miles to date. My tracker remains in the purple range (that means I will make it). So far have averaged 7.99 miles per day. This tracker is all miles walked โ€“ not just intentional. I am also tracking my intentional miles, just to see how I do. To date I have tracked 917.9 intentional miles. This puts me at 45% complete (just ahead of where I should be to meet the goal).

My Biggest Loser and Hogwarts challenges both were running in May. I have wonderful teams for both challenges. Such a fantastic and inspiring group of people all helping each other meet our goals. I have said it before and I will say it again, I wouldnโ€™t be where I am without them. They keep me motivated and accountable and make this journey a fun one.

Now for the ugly - I had an injury mid-month that has been very discouraging for my goals. I hurt my knee somehow which has limited my mobility. For the past couple weeks have been limited to a few small walks, and mostly seated chair exercises. I found a couple workouts that are halfway decent, but honestly donโ€™t know how well I am actually burning calories. I had an orthopedic appointment and MRI, but am still waiting for my follow-up appointment to discuss what they found. It is scheduled for June 4th. I have been continuing the strength, cardio, and stretch exercises but my 17K a day steps didnโ€™t happen. I did not meet my 250 miles or my 150 miles of intentional walking this month.

I finished the first book of the Harry Potter series, along with my Hogwarts Challenge. I am continuing to read the third book of the Invisible Library Series โ€“ โ€œThe Burning Pageโ€, but honestly donโ€™t really enjoy it โ€“ so it has been a tough one.

I have realized that my mission to reach the ideal range by my birthday in August will be a stretch and that is disappointing. Realistically, and at the rate I have been losing lately, it will probably be October so am setting this as my new goal. After reaching, I want to lose another five pounds to keep myself under control. My goal to reach that additional five pounds is my two-year mark on this journey โ€“ January 8, 2025!

    I WILL get there.

    My June Goals:

โ€ข Lose 4 pounds (always my goal), but be happy with a 2% loss for the month
โ€ข Alternate days of Cardio and Strength Training
โ€ข Stretch 3 days per week
โ€ข Finish the Burning Page and find something fun to read
