Fitbit One / Flex & activity

I'm considering either a Fitbit One or a Flex to replace my broken Nike Fuelband. Hoping someone can answer a question for me. From what i've read in reviews if you are performing an activity that the fitbit is not suited for (like cycling) with the One you can set it to "Activity" mode and it will stop progress toward your goal until you take it out of that mode, and then you can go into the web interface (app also maybe?) and plug in what that activity was and how many calories you burned (probably i'd get this from a HRM).

Can you do the same thing with the flex?

I can't speak for the Flex, but that is not exactly how it works with the One.

Let's say I take an hour long bike ride from 1:00 - 2:00 and I burned 500 calories.

I can create an activity record by using the stop watch function. But I do not have to. The advantage of doing the activity record is that when I go to Fitbit's website, I will see exactly what time I started and ended and how many calories Fitbit says I burned at that time.

Either way, you are going to record the bike ride. I record on MFP, but you can do it on Fitbit. Once you connect MFP and FItbit, you will start getting a field to record start time and duration of the activity. That will information is used to override FItbit's information. This last part should be the same for the Flex.
