Carbs in vodka

I’m sure this has been asked but I can’t find it. I logged 2 oz of vodka and the calculator returned with 32 g of carbs instead of 0. Can I fix this? Thanks!

I mean, you could, look up a different vodka entry, but you'd be deceiving yourself. Vodka has calories, which, for these purposes, since they're alcohol calories, they count as carbs.

There are no carbs in vodka. Alcohol is about 7 calories per gram. Also alcohol inhibits any burning of carbs or fats in the body while it's present. Your body has to metabolize alcohol (since it can't be stored in the body) until it's gone. Till then, your body doesn't use any other energy sources.

Yeah, some people enter alcoholic spirits as containing carbs to reflect the calories. There are no carbs. Alcohol is sort of like it's own macronutrient, roughly 7 calories per gram, except it's not a nutrient. :D

Look for entries in the database that look like this one, no brand name, name that only a bureaucratic could love, probably a silly default serving size (but sensible ones in the drop-down), probably but not necessarily green-checked:

No carbs. There are other entries for other proof versions.

These came from MFP start-up, when they initialized the database with data from the USDA food database. That USDA database has evolved, but you can still look up things there and use the crazy-name syntax to find the related entries in the MFP database. The SR Legacy part of the USDA database is most relevant.

Some of MFP's versions have wildly over-inflated calories for one of the serving sizes (MFP's fault, as I understand it), but the other serving sizes in the drop-down are fine. You won't have trouble noticing if you hit a wrong'un, they have like 100X the calories they should.

No carbs in vodka. And yes your body processes those first however you can say that about any recently ingested food or drink. It’s just calories in just like anything but no nutritional value.

The upside is alcohol has high TEF like protein so drink up!
