Binge eaters....

Hello, So I just wanted to make this thread to all the binge eaters out there. Food to me has always been like a drug to me ( and I know it should be eat to live not live to eat ) .... and the hardest part with losing weight is the quantity of it that I can eat.
I use to sit and eat around the clock and mostly at night I would stuff my face just to be able to sleep.
Since I have joined and got on the weight loss journey 2 weeks ago I have been up all night not being able to sleep cause I keep fighting with my thought and I feel hungry every night.
It's been real tough cause now that I calculate everything I'm like "wow I can only have this much".. as to before where I was taking huge portions and going back for seconds and 3rds without even caring.
If you are a Binge eater or I should say were a Binge eater I would love to hear your struggles as well.
I just have to keep staying strong. well I guess it will get better just got to keep fighting those thoughts.

Hi, I do the same thing. I work overnight, so it's tough to sleep during the day. Sometimes I wake up, eat something, and go right back to bed. It is an awful habit, and I do it almost everyday. I'm convinced it's why I can't lose. I'll add you, We can help each other out!0

i never binged every day, but i am ... was a binger. there are times where i sit in the kitchen and shovel and shovel huge quantities of food into me. and make strange concoctions out of combinations of food that should never go together but i insist they're delicious and make like 8 servings of it, or sit down with a 1/2 gallon of milk and a box of cereal and go to town til one or the other is finished. it's a periodic thing and i don't even realize what's happening, but an hour later my pantry and fridge will be desemated and i'll be passed out on the floor trying to get up or just zombie walk to my bed and go to sleep. it's a really shameful thing that i do and it's been quite a while since ive done it but i too can empathize with you!0

I am the same.. I don't binge everyday but when I do, I can't be stopped. My worse habbit is chips. I can't just have a handful or a proper serving, I must finish off the contents of the bag. Even if I'm not even hungry I will.
I mostly do it at night because that is when I'm bored. I have to actively think about what I'm doing in order to avoid it. Or try to keep junk food out of my house to prevent it. Usually though after I do it, I feel like crap and say I'll never do it again... but as you know..0 -
I was/am a binge eater. I think I have it mostly under control now, but I feel ur pain. I especially love nachos, and pizza. The only thing that works for me is to absoloutely make sure these things are never in the house, lol. Or else all hope is lost. When I go out I make sure to go nowhere near places that sell these yummy things. If you can't keep them out of the house, I would suggest a lock for your fridge or pantry. GL girlie!0

Just like you, I have been the same way. I currently battle bulimia every single day of my life. I also binge every now and then (not often) and do the same exact thing. I would get home, be alone, and just sit in my kitchen eating a couple of chips, then brownies, then cereal, then bread, just horrible. After I would hate myself for doing so. I struggle with it everyday, I have been doing better onthis site, i think it helps me. I am starting to feel healthy again, and hoping to keep it like this. But it is a horrible feeling!0 -
I can totally sympathize, and struggle with binge eating and bulmia, although, other the past few months I have gained a lot more control over purging, and am now trying to stop the binging. There's another thread on here that I comment on, similar to this one, where people have shared their stories and are supporting one anoter to get healthy if anyone here wants to check it out:

Hello. My girlfriend started an organization for Binge Eating. It is BEDA, Binge Eating Order Association. Maybe you can get some overall support for binge eating at her website. Am I allowed to post a website here? If not, just google BEDA and look for it.0

I feel you! My freshman year of college I was a borderline anorexic. Then I decided to gain weight. But why would I do it the healthy way? I ate turtle brownies, scotcharoos, nachos...and I mean like a whole pan of brownies, a huge plate of nachos. When i got to a normal weight I thought I could just shut the binging off. WRONG. For the past year I have put on 20+ lbs due to binge-eating. Only this summer I have not had the urge to binge. It was so embarrassing. I would blow through a hundred dollars in a weekend on binge food, eating until I literally couldn't lay in any position other than the recovery position. My heart rate would increase, I'd sweat, and my veins would swell. I even hid food from my boyfriend and ate it in secret. So embarrassing. For a good 6 months i couldn't wear any fitted shirts because I always had this binge-belly. AH I don't want to reminisce anymore! But I feel you. Message me if you need any advice or support!0

I've been a binge eater my entire life--no, seriously. As a child I would wait until everyone left the kitchen and then I would clean out cupboards into my mouth. I have good news. You can stop.
I've been going to a counselor this summer and doing cognitive behavior therapy. It has been amazing. I no longer feel as though the food is in control of me. This doesn't mean there are no temptations, but that I am learning how to make my mind work for me instead of against me. I would recommend this to everyone who struggles with binge eating, bulimia, etc. (I can't speak for anorexia, because that has never been my problem.)
In my case, my primary care doctor referred me to the counselor, and I pay a specialist's co-pay to see him -- $40. Which is way, way cheap for counseling. Check with your insurance.0 -
Here is an on line program you might want to try. It's called Shrink Yourself. It is all about emotional eating and Binge eating. It is a great program. You can do it for one month at a time or longer.

I can totally relate :blushing: I am a binge eater. I just can't stop myself, but it's generally only on the weekends. I used to eat and entire bag of chips, and entire carton of ice cream, some soda and cookies if they were there.
I totally agree with those that suggested KEEP IT OUTTA THE HOUSE! I have tried this, but since I have a skinny husband that survives off of mt dew, I have to be strong. His whole family thinks I am crazy and controlling for requesting no junk food be in the house, but they just don't understand the compulsion. I mostly combat my eating with exercise. If I feel like I need to drink a pop, I'll go for a walk. This typically works until everyone is asleep, then I sneak into the kitchen. It is embarrassing! I am trying to overcome this because I get so disappointed in myself when I loose 5 lbs in 2 weeks and then gain it all back in 2 days!0
