Donating to the food bank

I took a look at the most requested items from the food bank in my area and the list of grocery stores where food donations can be made. Which turns out to be a large number of them.
The most needed items are
Protein Meats and Fish {pictures show canned tuna, salmon other meats}
Non sugary cereals,
Natural Peanut Butter
Pasta Sauces
Whole wheat pastas Brown rice
baby formula
100 percent natural fruit juices
canned fruits and vegetables
I thought to myself the savings I have been making by leaving the junk food on the shelf can go to a higher purpose.
Just think if each person decided to forgo the half dozen sodas, potato chips, candy bars, cookies for that week of shopping and dropped in a can of tuna /salmon, rolled oat cereal, peanut butter etc. in the foodbank each week , what a difference we on this board can make.

Well...
I doubt most would change their eating habits just to donate food. People who are inclined to donate usually do despite any of that.0 -

True, but it could be a motivating factor fo those who would do something like this to avoid buying junk food--if they have will power issues with it. It's a sweet idea.0 -

No I am not stirring the pot. It is a good idea, a motivator for people to stay on track and it benefits others.
What I would be more interested in hearing from you is what you plan to donate.
Mine will be 2 cans of salmon, 2 cans of tuna and one peanut butter this week.0 -
You could always donate the junk food.0

There was this post where the guy trashed his sodas , cookies and chips.
Well the outrage posted by some people towards the guy because he failed to donate the so called food {as if diet soda has nutrition}food was incredible.
I posted this topic for ideas on how to save money and how to use that savings for the foodbank and the outraged people are just not here.0 -

I wasn't outraged, I responded to his reasoning about why he didn't and encouraged him to reconsider next time.
I'm not here in thread because I'm not sure what there is to say. You posted an idea for people; it's a good one for those who will be motivated by it.
I'm not sure what your point is about the people not being here. Maybe those who were offended or upset already donate or do something similar and don't need your prodding to do so. Did you consider that? You also said this thread isn't related to drama from any other thread.
For those concerned about diet coke having no nutrition, don't forget that an element of food and drink is enjoyment. Those who need from food banks like some of that too. That poster did not deserve to be chastised, but once he explained his reasoning for not wanting to donate to a food bank, he did open the door for discussion on that.0
