Injury

So the other Day I did two combat work outs to catch up. On one of my last workouts I had a sharp pain in my left shoulder. I wasn't able to lift it half way up to my head. It has now been 4 days I can lift it up to my head with little pain. So I tried something easy and I vacuumed a spot on the carpet. I got a sharp pain from pushing the vacuum around.

I am thinking about taking a bunch of Ibprofen and just continuing on with my workouts but I figured I would ask more intelligent people then me. The closest bone crusher is 40 miles away so I would prefer not to see the chiropractor yet if I can heal it on my own.
Any thoughts?

last thing you want to do is injure it worse than it already is...maybe try some lower body workouts for a couple days and see how it heals up...ice it/ then use a heating pad and do that back and forth. also taking ibuprofen. see how it is...if its still the same or worse go see someone. pushing through the pain might seem like a good idea at first but you could injure it to the point where it cant be fixed. good luck!

you've got it half right. take a bunch of ibuprofen and rest, not continue with your workouts. that would nuts. your shoulder is the most unstable joint in your body so treat it appropriately. give it rest, monitor the pain, if it doesn't subside in a reasonable time eat the 40 minutes and go see a doc.

certainly for the time being you can figure out a way to workout that doesn't involve your shoulders

If you're just looking to decrease the pain, I suggest an epsom salt bath. Pour about 1/2 a box of epsom salts in bathwater and soak. You can put a washcloth in the water and then over your shoulder if it helps (just re-wet it when it starts to feel chilly). When I was dealing with pain from a car accident, this was incredibly helpful!

If you're looking to get back into working out--DON'T MESS WITH IT until it's feeling better. The worst case scenario is that you really injured something and moving wrong could make it worse. Check it out with a reliable doctor, chiropractor or physical therapist. They can give you a go-ahead when things are better.

Stay away from any routine that requires you using your arm, which is most, so maybe best to rest for a few days. Don't want to damage yourself worst. I hurt my knee a few weeks ago, so I stay away from squats. However, some months ago I hurt my wrist, I had to take a week off, because I do crossfit, and I need my hands throughout every single workout.

So don't be afraid to rest and treat the injured area with meds and ice and heat packs

    Feel better soon

Thanks for all the advise... Combat- insanity are on hold for now. I have been using the elliptical while paying madden to restrict the use of my arms. Even after vacuuming there is still a bit of pain. Blah that is what I get for over doing it.

    Sounds like rotators cuff problems.

You can rehab it with internal and external rotations.

Glad you're not going to push through wih working out more. Pushing through is a great way to turn a 6 week problem into a 6 month problem...
