New to MFP and Into Weight Training

Hello, new here. Older, widower. Always been interested in powerlifting. Third attempt and hopefully, if I can stay healthy, I will be entering my 1st event. Looking for advice and some lifting partners to bounce ideas off of.
59 and will be 60 by the time of event. 5'7" and currently 256 lbs.
I been working on losing weight but not losing muscle and strength. Any thoughts on potential weight class, training and serious time before event to prep? Looking at a December 17th event.
Any thoughts would be graciously appreciated.

    Welcome!

    I considered myself a powerlifter for years when I first picked up the iron, though I never competed. There are a few around who have, some of them post periodically to this thread.

    You can also try looking around the Fitness and Exercise and the Body Building forums for threads which may contain answers to your questions, or you can start a new thread there and maybe have better luck in getting a response than relying only on an introduction post, since not everybody reads these.
