Is the total number of calories correct to be in Calorie deficit

I logged in and said I wanted to lose 2 pounds a week … so they gave me about 1,300 a day … my question is … is that the number I’m supposed to be eating to be in my calorie deficit? Or should I be taking calories off that number?

The calorie goal from MFP includes the 1,000 calorie per day deficit, so not a great idea to cut further than that.

    That’s what you eat.

I’ve been taught to eat my goal weight times 12.

By whom? And I suppose you mean weight in lbs x 12? If I did that I'd not really lose weight because that's pretty close to maintenance for me. Why not set up MFP correctly, with a realistic weightloss goal and eat that amount, plus a reasonable part of exercise calories.

That might work for some but certainly wouldn’t for me. My current pounds x 12 gives me a deficit of 700 cals per day ie totally out for what I need. If I was aiming for a lower bodyweight that would give me even lower calories - really not healthy.

The metric I've heard is 15x bw for maintenance, 12x for weight loss.

Ofc it's not guaranteed to be accurate, but neither is an online calculator. And this metric is faster.

Personally, I find my maintenance to be just over 14x, but I'm quite sedentary aside from workouts.

There are too many variables to go with a fixed equation.

2 lbs? What is your height and weight?
