For me, mindful eating had to be practiced. Again and again. As diligently as I’d practice piano before a recital. I use the 10-point hunger scale to assess when and how much I should eat. The low end is hungry and the higher numbers relate to how full you are. I only eat if I feel hungry and I check in a few times during my meal and stop eating at about a 6.
It’s a simple method, but not always easy. Just remember, every meal or snack is an opportunity to practice these skills until they become ingrained.7
