Sore Muscles from lifting...should I do cardio?

Apparently I had a really good leg session 2 days ago because I am still so sore when I walk and climb stairs! I did not do any cardio yesterday to try to give my legs a break and just lifted chest and shoulders. Today I NEED to do some cardio but dont want to hinder/reduce any work that I may have accomplished on leg day. Any thoughts if I should power thru some cardio today to limber up or not?
Thanks for the help!

Do something, can be about whatever you like, but keep it to a moderate intensity. Work the muscles, increase blood flow to them and you should feel better.

Exercise will help relieve some of the pain from DOMS

I'm in the same boat! Hurts to walk, sit, kneel but once I get moving it does feel better. I did arms one day and took yesterday off but getting back to it today. Love the burn but not the tightness

Once the muscles are warmed up you will feel less pain anyway. I do less resistance, more rpm then :-)
  • Yes definitely do light to moderate cardio. Remember that blood carries oxygen and nutrients to the working muscles, so it will help! My personal preference is to stretch as well after the cardio! Good Luck!
  • +1 for doing cardio. It'll work the soreness out of your legs, and you'll feel a lot better. Just do it. :)

Do you go to failure on every set? If so, then this might be the cause of the serious DOMS you are experiencing. I do not think that DOMS is necessary for hypertrophy or strength.

Yes. do the cardio. Soreness is caused by lactic acid buildup in the muscle. Get the lactic acid moving/circulating. Drink water will help, too.

Did you stretch after your weights? I find that and having enough protein helps with sore muscles.

do some cardio- and STRETCH really good

yes, do cardio! for me, I HAVE to do cardio the day after a lifting session, or else my day 2 DOMS are killer. I also always make sure to stretch for at least 10-15 minutes after every workout. I'm training to increase my running pace, so my schedule right now pretty much looks like this (although sometimes I flip Sat/Sun, depending on what I've got going on that weekend):

    M: run/stretch
    Tu: lift/stretch
    W: run/stretch
    Th: lift/stretch
    F: run/stretch
    Sa: long run/stretch
    Su: rest/stretch

I love swimming when my muscles are sore from lifting. Loosens everything up nicely.

There is a HR zone called Active Recovery for a very good reason, shouldn't be adding a load that requires healing by itself, and great for recovery, gets blood flow in to muscles to aid repair.

Go to hard and you'll we postponing or impeding or killing the repair process, depending on how intense.

That Recovery HR zone has recently been called badly the Fat-Burning zone. It does have it's purpose.
