So I have always seen and heard of people taking these things. How do I go about it? What powder or bar do I buy? Do I replace a meal with it? Eat it before, or after exercise?
I need to lose fat, not much though, I need to lose the stubborn fat and strengthen my muscles.

You don't need protein bars/shakes, really. Many people who take them are lifting seriously and want an extra protein boost. I try to get enough protein in through my diet alone, but I will have a shake during the day many days.
Protein shakes and meal replacement shakes are two different things. Protein shakes are a supplement, not a replacement. I personally wouldn't do a meal replacement because I'd rather eat my calories.0
