New here and struggling

Hi there. I'm new here and struggling to lose some weight.

I don't understand the calories adjustment. It seems to add nearly double the calories if I walk 12000 steps. What happens if I go for a run does it add it again???

I'm assuming you have a smart watch or similar device connected to MFP to automatically transmit workout information to the MFP app? Which device are you using, since a couple have been experiencing issues lately.

The exercise calories show how much you've burned from exercise. The idea is that you can eat that many more calories and still stay within your daily calorie goal to lose X pounds per week, whatever you've chosen as your X.

If you're just getting started, you may want to avoid "eating all your exercise", and enjoy the extra lost weight, as long as it's not too extreme. When I get too low with food calories, the starvation mode hits, and food cravings tend to take over and sabotage my plans.

What’s your weight, height, sec, current weight and activity level? What’s your current daily calorie goal?

If you’re getting calories doubled by 12,000 steps, something is off. Your calorie goal may be WAY too low, you’ve set yourself at “sedentary”, or your fitness tracker isn’t syncing properly. Or perhaps your tracker is giving you calories, and you’ve also got something like “map my walk/run/ride” awarding duplicate calories in error.

It’s also very common for gym equipment to show calories burns that are unloveably out of whack. The equipment isn’t maintained, or isn’t calibrated, or (my own personal opinion) some award fantasy calories to keep you happy and coming back.

Could you provide a screenshot of your diary, or open it so we can look at it?
