Hi Christie! Nice meeting you! Fellow vegan here, using the app for a couple of weeks only but trying to lose weight. Let’s keep in touch and support each other throughout this journey!

Hi, Christie! I'm not vegan, but have been vegetarian for over 50 years.

If you're trying to gain weight, and have it be mostly muscle, the first things are to start a good progressive strength training program, and get overall good nutrition . . . especially (but not exclusively) ample protein. As a vegan, I'm sure you know it's important to focus on protein that's complete (in essential amino acids, EAAs), and highly bioavailable. That's achievable as a vegan/vegetarian, but it does require a bit more attention for us than for omnivores.

In case you're not familiar with it, the Vegan Health site - with content from registered dietitians who are vegan - is a great resource for vegan nutrition information. Unlike some vegan advocacy sites, it's solidly science-based. They have various articles on nutrition for athletic activity or muscle-building, such as this one:

    https://veganhealth.org/sports-nutrition/vegan-weightlifting/

If you're trying to gain weight, does that imply that you have difficulty eating enough calories to gain weight, i.e., feel full fast or have limited appetite? If so, this might be helpful:

There's a group here that was started for vegans/vegetarians/plant-centric omnivores. It's not very active recently, but there's still some good/helpful content folks have shared there. I think much of it is weight loss focused, but some still might be helpful for you or others who've replied on this thread. It's here:

    https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/145477-herbivores-of-mfp

Maybe some new members can re-colonize it and get it going again?

Most of the people pursuing weight gain here tend to post more in this area:

    https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/categories/goal-gaining-weight

There's good stuff there, too, but the diet parts are more oriented to omnivores.

Wishing you success with your goals!

I am vegan too, back on MyFitnessPal after a major life adjustment... I started college in September. I need to up my protein and cut down on sugar and that's just the information I got from my first day (today) of logging food, exercise, and water
