1 part oats (or other grains) to 2 parts water. As simple as it gets really.

I add other stuff - teaspoon of chia seeds, teaspoon of linseed, and eat mine with fruit but of course all additions come with their additional calories.

I eat them because I like them, they are good for me, and I find them filling. They don't really do anything for weight loss though, there would be plenty of lower calorie options others would choose.

Yeah, any overnight oats recipe that you like is just...oats...and your flavoring of choice.

Doesn't "help" with weight loss other than the fiber keeps you fuller longer. It's not a hack, just a delicious breakfast food - that only takes five minutes even if it's box to bowl, skip the overnight bit.

Log everything and make toppings choices based on calories and/or nutrition goals. Obviously things like butter, sugar, nuts and fruit are going to increase calorie numbers.

Weightloss will come from a consistent weekly calorie deficit. Oatmeal or any other food will not help you lose weight unless it fits within your overall calorie target. Oatmeal however IS a good choice in the morning. Adding protien power to it is not a bad idea.

I make overnight oats every evening and have eaten them for breakfast daily for the past 6 months:
    1 c milk
1/2 c rolled oats (don't use instant, they get too mushy)
    1 Tbsp cocoa powder
    1 Tbsp shredded coconut, unsweetened
    1 Tbsp ground flaxseed meal
    1 tsp chia seeds
1 1/2 Tbsp brown sugar (judge me, whatever. Tastes like cardboard without sweetener)
    pinch of salt
Shake up, refrigerate overnight. Under 500 calories. Between getting this good, filling breakfast and a light lunch, reasonable dinner, and more exercise I've lost 60 pounds so far this year.
