Eat whole foods. WHOLE fruit and vegetables, shoot for five servings a day
Legumes (beans,) dairy, nuts, whole grains, meat, fish, poultry, oils.
Log your food, study your food diary and start to make better choices. There are a lot of online resources, you could start by Googling "Mediterranean Diet" which is just basically what I listed above.
Adjust portion sizes to stay within your calorie goals. No foods are bad or good, but healthier daily choices makes weight management easier.0 -
When I started, simply logging helped me to make better choices.
I thought of it like a savings account. Where was the best place to invest my calories versus frivolously blowing them in.
Then getting a fitness tracker helped me understand the “cost” in effort to burn calories versus (horrors!) the vast expense consuming certain foods cost me.
Tracking diligently helped me help myself.0 -
Well, let me put it this way, the more your insulin spikes due to certain carbohydrate consumption the more damage is done to every single cell in your body due to glycation known as AGE (Advanced Glycation End Products) which effects not only lifespan but healthspan as well. There's obviously nuance to that conversation but I'm talking about the average person in most western cultures with the USA taking the gold metal.
Whole foods is a good start to help mitigate the effects of AGE simply because of the lower levels of glycation and the antioxidant properties that combat free radicals and reduce AGE when compared to processed food which also require different cooking methods that are also healthier when dealing with actual real food in a real kitchen and not a manufacturing plant.
Food is basically our healthfulness and when it isn't conducive to human mortality then medication is the required result, otherwise early death is on the line and very real. The children of today unfortunately will follow in their parents food prints and they will be the second generation where lifespan shrinks, so it begins.0
