Do the app automatically set your macros or do do I know what to set them at?

Default macro setting is 50% Carbs, 30% Fat, 20% Protein.
You can change them if you want in Goals.0 -
The default settings mentioned by Riverside are very much in line with mainstream nutritional guidance from outfits like USDA/NIH, NHS, WHO, etc. Ditto for the micronutrient defaults, which are usually based on the US recommended amounts.
Individuals can change them, as she said, since some people do want or need something special. But the defaults aren't some weird arbitrary thing MFP made up out of whole cloth. They'd be a reasonable starting point for most people.0
