Healthy toast toppings
As the title said. I’m looking for some ideas for toast toppings. I like to have a space of toast with my eggs and typically I just do butter but I’m trying to make small changes. I’m ok if it’s not perfectly healthy but maybe something that could at least add some nutrients and not just fat. The problem is I don’t like some of the basics so I’m trying to think outside the box. I’m not a fan of peanut butter, jelly, or avocado toast.

I'm fond of Light Laughing Cow cheese on my toast, also hummas, or light cream cheese.2

Do you like cottage cheese? If you put it on toast and put it in the oven, it eventually bubbles and gets stringy kind of like mozzarella. Have it plain or top with something savory. Or mix with sugar or sweetener, maybe vanilla, cinnamon before you melt it. Maybe fruit when it's melted.1

You can top toast with ricotta. Sweet--apples, pears, berries, peaches with maybe a drizzle of honey, herbs. Simple savory with EVOO, fresh herbs, balsamic. Tomato/basil; smoked salmon/capers/red onion; Prosciutto; pancetta or bacon/fried egg; pesto/fried egg. Lemon flavored olive oil is outstanding. I've been using the Pepperidge Farm "very thin" whole wheat bread.2

This doesn’t add any nutrients but it does provide a sweet treat and it curbs my craving for a cinnamon roll or coffee cake. I eat Thomas’s 100 calorie multi grain English muffins and sometimes I mix a little cinnamon with a packet of Splenda and sprinkle it on the muffin right after I spread the butter. Very yummy.1

I put Greek yogurt on muffins, quick (non-yeast) breads, and some hearty yeasted breads, especially brown bread or something with nuts, dried fruits, and/or seeds.
I like putting dollops of oatmeal on my toast if I have toast with my oatmeal.
Or just top your toast with the eggs.0 -
