It depends a lot on circumstance. I have a friend who is of the opposite sex but there's no sexual tension between us. Also, and this is the most important thing I think, I don't confide in him rather than confiding with my spouse. We're work friends with common interest. He's also married and I sometimes check in and ask how his wife is doing.

There is definitely a type of cheating possible, "emotional cheating," where someone will start to emotionally depend on another person rather than their spouse. It's especially toxic when one person starts to go to that other friend in order to feel better, even if nothing sexual is going on. At the very least it can be a sign that the marriage is not going well and it can be a sign of trouble.

I think being friends with a person who is of the opposite sex is completely possible if your spouse is cool with it and if your spouse still comes first in your heart. I'm giving my feedback here without any knowledge of other posts you have made so sorry if I missed anything. Good luck to you!
