When trying to scan barcode got message that camera was denying access. Given instructions to go to settings.> Privacy> camera. I don’t have anything that looks like that on either the app or my iPhone. My iPhone does show that I have barcode scanning turned on.

Are you a Premium member? You have to be a Premium member (paid version) for scanning to work.

You have to go into the settings for your iPhone.

Tap on "Privacy and Security," then tap on "Camera." Be sure that MyFitnessPal is on the list and that the slider is green showing it has permission to access the camera.

Alternately, just go to settings and scroll down to MyFitnessPal and tap on that. From there you can see if the app has access to your camera.

The setting to read bar codes is a different animal. You just need to make sure MFP has access to the camera and then it can compare the barcode to the database. Then, of course, make sure it's correct. Trader Joes, for example, seems to reuse barcodes such that if you have a package of, oh let's say fig and olive crisps, it might tell you that you have mustard.
