Starting All Over and Missing Old MFP App

I lost about 100lbs on MFP years ago, I was a premium member for the barcode scanning only. Now with the new app and loss of activity feed I am curious how others are motivating each other.

I have tried another app and I do like it and it’s free but all my recipes are here.

I need to lose 75lbs and need friend support 🤍

    Welcome back!

I think many people who like the feedback from their activity feeds have found other options. It's kind of sad. The community has become less active; it's the place to interact now.

I don't miss the advertising from Under Armor, but since they sold the platform, I think it has declined in users. The tools that are here with the free version and with premium still work for managing weight.

I still use the tools. They work for me. One of the important things is to stick to it even when you get to your goal or you might find yourself going back to the bad habits. That's why I'm still here. I don't want to go back! I started to this summer, and now I'm back on track.

Try going to "Challenges" or "Motivation and Support" subforums. There are a lot of ongoing threads with the same people chatting daily. I think that's going to be the only way to have "friends" on the site.

I am the one who didn’t stick with it! 😂 and here I am back again!

I find the community a lot to navigate compared to the activity feed tho. It’s sad because I really like logging here. It’s simple but I enjoy interaction too.

You have another chance for success. Only you can make it happen.

If you decide to invest a little time, you might find some discussions that you like and then become a regular contributor. If you're on the website, there's a little "bell" symbol near the top for notifications. This will alert you to new responses to discussions that you have participated in. When you click on it, you see a list, but if you click on the "All notifications" link in the bottom left corner of the list, you'll go to a page that lists all the new content. It's a way to keep up with the things you want to keep up with.

You might also find a group that you gel with. Groups tend to have the same folks. Some are more active than others. The more you contribute, the more active they will be!

    Remember - STICK TO IT!

Hi, @JenLosesIt It, ...and welcome back! Yes, I miss the newsfeeds, too. I joined a group to find like-minded people. And I get satisfaction from checking out new posts and responding to new or returning members....in fact I get as much emotional support from that as I do from the support I receive from others.

I tried Lose It but I just don't like it. Probably because I am so used to MFP, anything else doesn't seem as helpful to me.

I post here every day, log my food and try to support others. I belong to Serial Starters.....a group for...well, I guess its self-explanatory. But there are a lot of groups that are great for connecting with others. Or just start a discussion of your own. I met someone who started a discussion for her daily check-in and I have been posting encouragement to her.

In any event, I wish you good luck on your journey. As we all say, YOU CAN DO IT!!

I tried to get a thread started about ways to find connection and support in MFP as it exists now. There were a few replies, maybe some ideas there might help:

Yeah.. it’s not the old MFP.. and a majority of my committed friends have left.

I have a few groups I am involved in that I am seeing to the end.. and long term users I like to talk too..

I’d advise to check out active groups that may interest you.

I feel ya. I still log daily, but my heart and mind aren’t in it without my friends feed.

I might get a response on every third or fourth post I make here in the boards, but it’s the same posters and generally making a variation of the same answer.

    It’s so exhausting and joyless.

The powers that be took the fun out of the thing. I loved the whole aspect of pumping each other up, seeing that GrandpaG had done a forty mile bike ride or Seabee Joe had done two hours of water volleyball. Reading that encouraged me to get off my bottom and go do something, too.

Now it’s just rote grunt work.

OMG yes!!! You said exactly what I’m feeling. I’ve tried the other app but it also feels hard to adjust. Are you strictly on MFP? Mind if I add you?

Thank you for that!! It is so much harder to get to the discussions than it was the news feed. I might check out that group you are in. Is there a faster way to navigate to it?
