Invisalign!

Hi, I am getting my Invisalign on tomorrow and am super nervous and excited. Hoping this will positively affect my weight loss journey. Does anyone have any experiences that they can share either from a practical or a weight loss standpoint?
If I lose a lot of weight in the first few days/weeks because of how uncomfortable I am will that weight loss stay or will it go right back up as soon as I start eating normally again?

Thanks!

I've actually never heard that weight loss is a side effect of Invisalign. Interesting.

Weight will go if you eat less. If weight loss doesn't "stick" then it's because you're eating too much. log your food. Have you been logging food prior to this procedure? I mean. . .

Maybe I don't understand the premise.

Don't know about invisalign, but when my daughters had braces, the orthodontist always said to take them straight to Pizza Hut after, so I don't think it helped their weight loss much! Lol!

I have invisalign. It did not help or hinder my fitness or weight. I have not felt extreme discomfort. I ate and continue to eat normally.

I have successfully lost close to 30 lbs in the past 10 months. Unfortunately my progress has been slowing down and I am ready to rebuckle down and get the loss started again. Officially every time you eat you have to take out your trays, and then brush and floss. So every small snack that you want now comes along with a major deterrent (at least in the beginning before you get used to it or slack off). In theory, this sounds like unless you’re really genuinely hungry, snacking will become a thing of the past, and with that, a larger calorie deficit. Was wondering if anyone experienced this before and if it helped them stay on track with their plan.

Well if it's a behavior modification that you can use in your favor, I say by all means stick with three meals a day (or two) and no snacking.

Snacking was my biggest hurdle when I was losing, so it sounds like you are on the right track. Use whatever works!

And as far as weight loss slowing down, that's what happens to everyone. First, a smaller body needs fewer calories, generally. Second, it's easy to lose weight when there is a lot of weight to lose. It gets progressively more difficult as you near a healthy weight...so that's totally normal. Log your food!!

I used invalign and it worked great. You have to pop them out, floss and brush each time you eat. So there's an incentive to eat less meals. Your mouth will be a little sore from the pressure the first week and you'll speak funny. This too shall pass.

Thanks! Got them on today. Wasn’t as horrible an experience as I was expecting. Thankfully I haven’t experienced any pain yet🤞. I’m not much of a snacker, but I’m hoping that I’ll see results from those small snacks that I’m no longer having. I was preparing the fruit for tomorrow’s smoothie and I love to have one piece. But that was not worth the hassle 😉I know it’s prob less than 10 calories. But those can sure add up!

Are you weighing and logging? Maybe I’m misunderstanding? Giving up fruit for your smoothies at “10 calories” is barely a morsel of fruit.

Glad the Invisalign is less drama than expected. I’m terrified of dentisst. Greatest thing about being a newlywed was my poor husband would actually take time off to hold my hand while I got my teeth cleaned. No joke. He finally put his foot down but it was great while it lasted.

Dentists and spiders. 😱. My personal No Go zones.

Until 2 years ago, my fear of dentists was through the roof! (Think someone saying the word dentist would turn me white!) Thankfully I found a new dentist with great beside manner and I’m slowly getting over my fear!

I don’t track my food, but I do weigh it and make a plan. I know that not tracking is not recommended but I’ve lost 30 lbs this way and it works for me:)

The fruit example was the first one that came to mind, but some more came up over today- a bag of potato chips lying around that I would have had a few of, raw dough (I love eating baked goods before theyr baked 😁), potatoes from someone else’s late supper… the list goes on! It’s not much, but probably an easy 100+ calories a day which can really add up!
