Surgery ick!

Both hips and knees are shot. I have always been a big fella, “you’re gonna be such a strong boy, here have more potatoes.”
Most of my life I have worked manual labor job’s. Mostly on concrete.
When you work hard, you eat big to keep up with the work. Well I stopped working hard. Here I am.
Hip is bone on bone. Knees are popping like rice crispies.
The last find I weighed what the surgeon wants I was 18 years old.😩.
This might take a while.

Hello, and welcome!
It's never too late, I think . . . and IMO slow and steady (sustainable) is the way to go. That helps a person learn the new habits that don't just get us to a healthy weight, but keep us there long term.
I don't know how old you are, but I didn't reach a healthy weight until age 60, now 68 and maintaining. There are folks here who've started older, and succeeded. I'm betting you can, too.
Wishing you success: The quality of life improvement is worth the effort, in my experience!0 -
One day at a time to better health. You’re gonna have good days, you’re gonna have bad days, you may have the occasional really bad day. Doesn’t matter.
Had a big meal or a pig out of some kind? So stinkin’ what. Carry on like it never happened. You just have to keep hacking away with your calorie logging machete.
It works. I was obese and am normal weight range now. The difference in physical and mental health is night and day.
But you’ve got to be sick and tired of being sick and tired and ready to make changes and set any whining to the side. (Said as a massive whiner myself.)1 -
And PS, find something you enjoy doing. I had two “senior male friends” who lost a lot of weight here. One discovered a love of biking and would post lengthy bike rides the other day.
The other enjoyed water polo. He did a couple of hours a day.
You don’t have to do stuff you don’t like. Find what you look forward to, not what some relative or joker tells you you “should” do.1
