The road to recovery, getting back on my bike

On the 30th September I was diagnosed with Coronary heart disease and had to have 2 stents fitted, That procedure was carried out on the 18th October.

This was a complete shock as I live what I thought a healthy life style, I was fit, a little over weight, 28BMI. but I slowly lost my fitness over a year, so I now can see why.

This mini goal is about getting back on my bike, to ride like I stole it!
But it is a slow process and I have to go to rehab, but I said NO NO NO.
Well actually it's Cardio rehab. Not sure what that will entail just yet.

So while I wait, I shall now look forward to my first ride, I will use the indoor trainer as I can control this and it will be very gentle all the way, but look forward to the day I ride outside again. My aim is the end of November or before.

This does seem a snails pace, but better to be safe than sorry.

Yes, better safe than sorry - and it should help explore your possible and next steps for progress. Imagine it can ease fear too. Hang in. Hope your recovery goes well.

That's a really good plan. Also, as I'm sure you know, a high-ish volume of lower-intensity cardio is great for building endurance and cardiovascular base. Assuming you'll be building up in that kind of way, this has the potential to not only avoid risks during your recovery, but solidify your foundation for progress once you get back to outdoor biking.

Even for fitness reasons, if your cardiovascular fitness has declined over the past year or so, a gradual build of low and slow volume can be a useful training phase. I do a short-endurance sport (rowing, on-water when I can, machine when I must (Winter!)). Loosely speaking, the generic training arc for our seasonal sport tends to be working on base early in the off-season (late Fall into early Winter), then starting to phase in more intense work in sensible doses in late Winter into Spring.

Best wishes for a success recovery, and even improvements beyond recovery!
