Iron

Hi,

The MyFitness app list Iron as 100%. I need daily iron of about 35mg and above. How do I change the unit to mg?

The units for Iron can't be changed in the free version. Not sure about the Premium/paid.

Also, 99.9% of the foods entered into the database are entered by members like you and I. The iron content in the foods is very often wrong, so be aware of that. You may want to do research on foods and their iron content prior to using them.

I also track iron, and it's a difficult one for me to hit on a regular basis, even though I have vetted the foods I log. My goal is only 8mg, so you have a challenge ahead.

Your suggested dietary goal is nearly double the standard recommended goal even for pre-menopausal women. You'll probably need to be on supplements prescribed by your healthcare team. Don't take an iron supplement without your doctor's approval though. It's not something to just supplement without regular testing.

The percentages are based on the US RDA - I also need more iron.. so knowing that the RDA is 18mg - you can double your percentage to 200% and that would be 36mg.

I too always wished the inputs could be in mg instead of percentages .. 🤷‍♀️ I have premium.. I still can’t do it.. but math for the win. 🏆

Echo what @cmriverside said about diary food selections being nutritionally inaccurate. I personally added most of my own custom foods that I researched to be accurate for my diary. Many of these are iron rich foods that I eat weekly. That’s helped me.
