For added sugar avoid processed food/ready-made food and prepare your own as much as possible. Especially processed food is full of added sugar. See if this already makes a difference in your glucose levels. Otherwise look into your diary which foods are high in carbs and which aren't. See how your glucose reacts to different types of food. Also, get a referral to a registered dietician for help (not a nutritionist if you're in the US)

The basics, you need to change your diet. More fresh non-starchy vegetables and fruits, much less processed foods. Next is portion control. Many servings are smaller than you think. Also, do not fall into the "net-carbs" trap. The total carbs is the total carbs. Fiber is a carbohydrate! It takes some work, but the end is worth it. I went from pre-diabetic to being Type 2 because I did not do this, but you have a chance to reverse it. Don't give up!

Concentrate on the quality of carbs vs the number. Eat healthy Whole Foods vs processed. A potato not potato chips, fruit not cookies etc. and eat lots of fiber…. Beans, lentils, veggies, oatmeal. Healthy carbs are not the enemy. Also watch your fat intake. That’s the real reason your body is not listening to your insulin…. Fat gets in your cell and gums up the insulin receptors

If you want to change what you eat, explore foods and quantity that will help and nourish your body - Plus - food you actually enjoy.

The food tracker here can help you understand quantity.

A registered diabetes dietician can help you understand different food types to explore.

There is a world full of ideas, food ingredients and spices to explore - it helps me to think of it as an adventure... I was surprised at how much my choices have changed as the 'healthier new-to-me' foods have displaced what i was eating before I decided to change.

I don't think it is a 1 and done kind of thing...

We have a gazillion food choices ahead, so it helps me to focus on exploring the next meal or the next few days and make what is happening as ok as possible right now. I can deal with the rest later... when that gets here.
