So where do I buy clothes?

It's getting chilly now and all my tops are way too big. I need clothes. I have no idea where to buy clothes, or even what kind of tops to get... I used to live in pretty much oversized tshirts (long and short sleeves). I don't want to spend a ton, but I don't want stuff that will shrink in the wash either...
Buying jeans was easy... I even got a jacket yesterday! But now I'm clueless. Help?

I really love TJMaxx, Target and Kohls. It's cheap, fashionable clothes that are fairly well made. You just have to dig a little (especially at TJMaxx). Kohls is also having a big sale right now. So go soon! I just got a pair of Rock & Republic Jeans and a Vera Wang dress for $70! No shrinking either. I have had some stuff shrink, but it's mostly cotton things. They have great jewelry too and so does Target. That's definitely where TJMaxx falls imo. But they have better purses than Target or Kohls.0

Target and Kohls are my main places, or the mall0

Target and Kohl's are always good, but just a thought why not try out the closest Good Will or thrift shop. It still looks like you have some weight you want to lose so instead of buying stuff that won't fit you next year save some money and when you reach your goal you will have more money saved to get your new outfits... :happy:0

If you're not at your goal size yet, try the thrift stores! I have several in my area. Once you've paid $2-$3 for a top, you won't feel so bad when it doesn't fit in a couple of months.
If your old tops are higher quality and you want to salvage them, see if a seamstress can alter them for you. If you are still going to be shrinking some more, buy tops now that are simple and classic in construction. They can be sized down later to get more bang for your buck. Same with dresses -- simple designs can be taken in up to two sizes.0 -
If you are still losing, I wouldn't spend a lot on clothes. Save it for when you're done. The other suggestions you got are good, just wanted to add a quick congratulations on your progress!0

Agree with Target, Kohl's, TJ's and similar places like Marshall's for lower-cost clothes. Looks like you've got maybe 15 pounds to go? Simple cuts like t-shirts and basic sweaters should continue to fit if you buy them just slightly snug (but still comfy). Tops with an empire waist - love those - as long as the shoulders fit, you can wear them through losses and they still look good. Have fun shopping!!!0

My chest isn't getting much smaller I think. I don't have much back fat anymore and I never lost much boobs even when I was smaller, lol (I went from 38DD to 36DD so far pretty much... size XL to L. Most of my fat has always been in my midsection and even when I was 14 I was in a size L).
The thrift stores here are pretty expensive, but I'll have a look. Thanks for the suggestions so far!0 -
Hi,
First of all huge congratulations girl!! You should be celebrating your tremendous weight loss and heading out to the nearest mall, girl!! Buying new clothes is your reward. Look around in the mall, let the sales help you with your style and size. Enjoy the new look of you.
You should really treat yourself because you deserve it. It doesn't have to be expensive at all, tons of sales in the mall now.0 -
OMG I thought this was just me! LOL I had no idea where to get "regular" sized clothes. What I did was go to the premium outlet mall. There are quite a few across the country. This way I could try on a ton of different style and brands at one time.0

If the thrift stores are expensive maybe try ebay.
You could go to whatever store you like and try on things for brand/fit/size and find them for resale online.

Check out your local Goodwill. It's a great place to find clothes while you are still losing weight, and you can get fantastic stuff without spending much. I found a dark green tape-yarn cardigan with hood and openwork crochet cuffs and hem, unworn, original store tags still on it, was $210 new and I paid $5.49. I bought a black suede trenchcoat, also never worn, for about that same price. I get all my barn clothes and a lot of tops there.0

I like Old Navy for inexpensive tops and sweaters.0

Check out the thrift and/or consignment stores! I've walked out with bags and bags of clothes for about $40 total. I buy work and casual clothes for pennies on the dollar, some still with the store tag on them!!0

I've bought some stuff at Kohl's, more stuff at consignment/thrift, and I don't mind buying "basic" items wherever I happen to be. I tend to be able to wear shirts over a longer weight range than pants, so I am not quite as worried about shrinking out of them too fast.0
