Eat less. How much less? Less than you ate yesterday.

Eat fewer calories than you burn. You burn calories just by being alive; by doing things in daily life like job and home chores; and by intentional exercise.

Set up your My Fitness Pal (MFP) profile and use MFP guided setup to get a calorie goal. Don't try to lose too fast, keep it easy and healthful instead.

Log everything single you eat and drink in your MFP diary. Stick close to your calorie goal for 4-6 weeks, or 1-2 whole menstrual cycles if you have those. "Close" means plus or minus roughly 50 calories, on average.

If your weigh changes at your intended rate averaged over that whole time, you're all set: Just keep going at that calorie goal.

If your weight changes lots slower or faster than expected, come back here, tell us how many days you tried, what your calories eaten were, and your starting/ending weights. We'll help you with the arithmetic to adjust your goal.

    Best wishes!

Really, I think that is a broad question. Yes, you would lose weight by eating less, but losing weight is more than just eating less, it is about changing how you think about food. It is about learning about healthy vs unhealthy foods, and what is better for you to eat. Yes, you could lose weight by eating junk food all day long (just less of it) but it is not as good for your body.

I would recommend looking at the Mediterranean diet for inspiration as to what is good to eat. Tracking does also help. It is amazing what you learn when you look at the actual calorie content and macros for foods.

Also, remember physical activity. By increasing your cardiovascular fitness, you can decrease your mortality rate (risk of death) by a factor of 4!! Also, increased cardiovascular fitness and strength training can make life more enjoyable - you will be able to do so much more than before you became active.
