Projected calories

Hello
It seems as though the maintenance, lose 1 lb per week etc. calories have shifted to +200 more.
I have an Android.

Can you please advice.
Thanks in advance.

Apologies for any confusion surrounding your activity level. To better estimate your total energy needs, MyFitnessPal has updated the Physical Activity Levels in accordance with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics findings. Estimating total energy needs involves multiplying the resting metabolic rate (RMR) by one of the following physical activity factors:

Sedentary / Not Very Active: 1.4
    Low / Lightly Active: 1.6
    Active: 1.8
    Very Active: 2

If you have recently changed your activity level or updated your current weight via the Goals section of the app, this would trigger an update to your calorie goals. You can read more about how we calculate calorie goals in this article.

If you would like to return to the previous calorie goal, you can manually change it by going to the goals page, then under Nutrition Goals > tap on "Calorie, Carbs, Protein and Fat Goals". You can then manually change your calorie goal.

Double check your profile entries, to ensure that nothing was accidentally re-set there. (It's kind of easy to accidentally change something. I've done it.)

Is it changing by the same number of calories daily? If it varies, did you recently sync a fitness tracker or app, and is it the daily calorie goal that's changing?

Those are the superficial things I can think of to take a look at, before reporting it as a bug.

Thank you for the reply! :) Much appreciated.
What do you mean about double check profile entries?

It isn't changing daily if I were to set it to let's say lose 1 lb per week or whatever goal pounds lost per week, unless my weight changes slightly which wouldn't add extra 200 some calories.
What has changed is it is just adding extra 200 some calories to whatever goal I set. Like maintenance used to be in the 1700s now it is projecting 1900s and all the others like lose .5 lbs per week used to be in the 1500s now it is 1700s etc. I have gained 5 pounds weighing up to 175 but I have been this weight before and it never gave me in the 1900's for maintenance. I am having to set it to lower calories goal to get it to where it used to be.

Also, as far as my fitbit I am aware it carries over extra calories when I exercise.

    Thank you again.

Double check profile entries means recheck your settings for height, weight, age, activity level, etc. It can be kind of easy to accidentally hit a key or click something when going there intending to look, not update. Sometimes in the past that's explained unexpected changes in calorie goal.

I'm not saying any of those things are for sure the cause. Software bugs are possible. I was just suggesting some things to double check before filing a help request with MFP support if it does seem to be a bug.

The original post for this I did under MFP tech supp questions.
    Anyhow, thanks for your input.

The original post for this I did under MFP tech supp questions.
    Anyhow, thanks for your input.

The "Tech Support Help" part of the Community is kind of a first-line thing where other MFP users try to help each other with problems. (The subtitle for this section on the main Community page is "Having trouble with MyFitnessPal? Get help from other members here.") Sometimes MFP staff read and respond to these, but it's mostly users helping each other.

If you want to contact MFP support, there is a "Help" link. It's in different places on different pages, or in the phone/tablet app vs. the web browser version. In the web browser version of MFP, you should see it in the line of links near the top of the regular MFP (non-Community) pages, or in the "Quick Links" list on some Community pages. In the phone/tablet app, it's in the "More" menu when you're on the dashboard page that shows up when you open the app. If you have trouble finding that, let me know which version of MFP you're using, and I'll post a screen grab.

When you click help, you should find a "Contact support" or "Submit a request" option. That will connect you with the MFP staff who support the app. Fair warning: They will probably ask you many basic questions, ask for screen grabs, etc. Keep answering their questions (such as any emails, etc.), even if your answer is brief/basic. They gets lots of requests, many of which the user abandons maybe because they figure something out. If we don't answer their messages, they'll decide we've lost interest. If you want to pursue it, keep answering.

    Best wishes!

FYI, I played around with my activity level settings out of curiosity, and now I have the exact same issue as the OP. My goal is now two hundred calories higher than yesterday with exactly the same settings. Sounds like a bug to me, especially since I've seen several posts about this the past few weeks.
I'll be keeping an eye on my calorie adjustment (synced tracker) to see if my end calorie goal also goes up or if my adjustment will be lower to compensate.

Thank you so much for posting.
The exercise calorie adjustment doesn't compensate for that extra 200 calories from what I have seen in the past weeks.

I sent a message to MFP going to help on the app as the person who replied to my original post suggested. I don't know when they can get to it. It isn't listed on the Known Bugs discussion board.
Anyway, please let me know what you find out. :)

@Jean where is this article you mention?
I can understand a change in multiplication factor for the different activity levels.
But the math is not adding up - even with a different starting calorie goal, the calorie adjustment should still lead to the correct deficit.

My (extrapolated) TDEE according to my tracker is 2099 kcal today. My weight loss rate is set to the slowest rate (0.25kg) so my adjusted calorie goal should have been 1824.
And yet my adjusted calorie goal on MFP is 1997, which would give me a paltry deficit of 102 kcal.
    Something is off.

I guess you would have to manually change the calorie goal not under different amount of weight per week.
    As Jean stated,
"If you would like to return to the PREVIOUS calorie goal, you can manually change it by going to the goals page, then under Nutrition Goals > tap on "Calorie, Carbs, Protein and Fat Goals". You can then manually change your calorie goal."

    Sure, I could.
But we shouldn't have to manually alter our calorie goal to arrive at the deficit we want. I'm just thinking of all those people less informed who are blindly trusting the goal MFP gives them.

I see. :) Yes makes sense.
