Please Remove the Friends Threads and Stickies

PLEASE remove the friends related threads and especially the friends stickies.

Friends serve zero purpose nowadays, yet people new and returning come here, see all the “friends” threads and and other MFP sponsored encouragement to make friends, and think there’s still something to friends and/or “accountability partners”.

It’s one thing to have friends and exchange the occasional PM (I haven’t had a PM since July) but to raise people’s expectations that friends are a beautiful and useful thing is ridiculous, and probably chases a lot of users off when they realize there’s no real use for friends.

It just clutters up the boards with utterly useless threads and posts, and creates a barrow load of frustration.

The crew friend request I’ve received since the butchering in June have been obvious romance scammers, with a probable sprinkling of bitcoin scammers mixed in.

As others have said, the “pal” has been amputated from My fitness Pal. I kept my mouth shut in vain hopes a replacement for the Newsfeed might be in the works, but nah, friends are utterly irrelevant.

Every time I see a “friend me” post I want to scream.

Agreed. I actually feel sorry for the newbies who join and are posting asking for people to friend them because there is ZERO point. From a business point of view, still spruiking the 'friends' feature while it does literally nothing is a silly move, as a lot of those newbies will go elsewhere after being disappointed. But I don't pretend to understand the current MFP business plan.

But yeah. You took away the feature that friends were FOR, so get rid of the dead ends which remain, for goodness sake.

Speaking of things that have ZERO point, I also feel sorry for the new people on whose intro threads longer-term member people vent and complain about the newsfeed being removed. The new people don't have the newsfeed, presumably don't even know what it is. Why not direct them to Challenges or Motivation or something?

They're not necessarily going to be disappointed about a feature they never knew existed, unless encouraged in that direction.

If people are sticking around here themselves, why do they complain to the new people about things like that? It's pointless negativity, likely to discourage them. How is that help or support? I guess if folks want to punish MFP by driving new people away, I sort of understand . . . but it's not IMO a decent way to treat the new people, even so.

I think getting rid of the newsfeed was a bad decision, bad for many pre-existing users. I said that at the time, in various places where I thought MFP staff would be likely to see it. I'll keep saying it, where it seems fully on topic. I have no problem with people venting and complaining on a thread like this one, where it has a point.

    I upvoted this suggestion, too.
