You want to find recipes that don't elevate blood sugar very much and low carb, with less than 100g's and ketogenic diets do that simply because diabetes is caused from too much blood sugar, period, get that down things get better.

Saying that a whole food diet where quality protein is the focus along with a few techniques like consuming vegetables first in a meal, having a savory breakfast to start the day off, move a little like a short walk after meals. Snacks, try nuts and seeds instead of something sweet and have something sweet like a dessert after a full meal only. Stay hydrated and try and maintain a steady nightly sleep is kind of important as well.

Just to reiterate, if your going to consume carbs make sure you eat them with enough protein, and when I'm mentioning protein I really mean from animal sources and try to consume the protein, fat and vegetables before you start munching down on the carb portion of the plate, it helps slow digestion.

Personally I took the low carb whole food route from my concern for diabetes many years ago and have maintained a much lower base line for blood glucose and it's no longer a problem and this protocol is standard in pretty much all the metabolic clinics that deal in diabetes.

Here's 1300 recipes from one of my favorite sites.
