As I start my journey in tracking my food intake, it amazes me how much sodium is in food. I'm trying my hardest to eat healthy, but if I eat out for lunch and dinner, there is no way to keep under the sodium intake for the day. Or at least that is what im finding.
Amazing how a raisin bran muffin has 500 mg. of sodium......Like do you really need to put sodium into something that is sweat?
I guess so because everything has it.

Leaving salt out of say mashed potatoes, or chocolate cake would be pretty obvious and pretty bland or overly sweet, so pretty much all recipes will have some salt content, simply because it's a flavor enhancer.
When it comes to salt in processed and ultra processed foods it basically used as a preservative which also increases safety, shelf life. it also enhances the flavor of food and is one of the go to components of the "bliss point" that is a requirement for ultra processed foods by enhancing the taste to encourage, mostly through our hormones, to overconsume.
Anyway consuming mostly processed and ultra processed foods the salt content is probably one of the least problematic component compared to the other metabolic dysfunction that are up for grabs when consuming too much of it.
What I'm saying is switching out some of that UPF with whole real foods is the better choice for your overall health, and you get to consume less salt as well.0
